Wellington Maps
- Susan Warren and Chris Horne to
be involved in project management.
Chris to compile list of maps currently available.
- Soon presented WCC list of all
connecting pedestrian pathways between streets in Wellington
- Joanna informed of revamping of
Northern, Southern, Eastern, City to Sea and Te Kopahau
Walkways brochures – extending distribution utilising Recreation
Wellington’s list and also looking to put on website for downloading
- Joanna noted that currently
looking at Oriental Bay to Mt. Victoria access – upgrading of tracks and
producing pamphlets
- Joanna also noted that Northern
and Southern maps include tracks that link to these
- Alexia raised question of which
tracks are wheelchair accessible.
Where could these be created?
These could be identified on maps using symbol. DOC currently working on criteria for
wheelchairs i.e. gradients, and have been involved with wide consultation.
- Celia noted all tracks to be
available on GIS – in future looking at suburbs linking to city.
- Soon stated that Council is
currently looking at signage for walkways – city landscape development
type and not wanting to look like traffic sign. “Commuting routes” – physical paper
showing walks. Tranzit
have said if WCC can produce standards then they will pay for walks
running alongside motorway to be signed
- Alexia contracted to audit
accessible walks, carparks, toilets and bus
terminal – signage at bus terminal poor.
- Jane raised issue of stormwater repairs being undertaken around waterfront:
not enough room for two-way pedestrian/cycle traffic. Issue to be raised within council
- Celia to find Jason’s maps (no
longer published) as these included where walks are, different activities,
accessible toilets etc
- Noted that District Plan (CBD
for Canopies) shows paper roads but does not indicate if adequate paths
- Celia to email those
responsible for “Ngaio Walking Tracks” – are they to produce new edition
and can they include accessible tracks if given criteria?
- Iona to look into Elizabeth Viggers’ “Around and About in Wellington” – copyright
contracted to DCM but not currently being utilised so contract may
possibly be passed on
- Greater Wellington have new web
page development showing public transport, but also possible to type in
address and will show pedestrian access and public transport
- Celia to search National
Library and Wellington Archives to search for maps
- Brent to contact Leslie
McConnell to keep updated with cycle plans, due to most walkways being
dual-purpose with pedestrians and cyclists
- Noted that there are gaps
between outer suburbs linking to inner-suburbs and to city
