Minutes of Meeting held 26 March 2007
Wellington City Council
Present: Celia Wade-Brown, Liz Thomas, Lily Linton, Mike Mellor, Robert Davies, Rosamund Averton, Iona Pannett, Debs Moir

Action: Iona to be responsible for sending meeting notices out to the media
The aim will be to have guest speakers every second meeting beginning at 6.30pm – after the business part of the meeting.
April: Finalizing drafts of submissions

August: Combined CAN/LSA education session re. walking and cycling issues (perhaps invite local candidates)

November: End of year function
Frances spoke about her experiences walking in Karori and getting appropriate signage and mapping to make walking easier.
An informative and interesting talk was enjoyed by all.
Action: Robert to put the presentation on the LSA website.
To be held 29th April (full day).
Two people from each walking user group have been invited (Auckland, Hamilton, Taupo, Wellington, Christchurch).
The day is aimed at strengthening the user groups and will cover funding (for local projects), the walking maps toolkit, media and advocacy.
Action: Two people from Wellington to be nominated to attend.
Some work has started on evaluating this map including a questionnaire at the Newtown Fair.
Some points need to be completed and the report will then be finished.
Do we want a comprehensive set of maps for Wellington City?
21 suburbs in Wellington City.
Grants from Wellington City Council?
May look at making the connection between maps and signs (this could be done at the same time).
Action: For people wanting to assist with this there is some remaining funding.
Walks focused on a steep incline and gradual decline!
Also looks at physical improvements that can be made eg. Handrails
Covers all of Wellington City
Transpower are happy for people to use their tracks
Rosamund has started putting together ‘walking portfolio’ of these walks
The annual plans for each of the councils will be out in April and there is also the footpath management proposal
Submissions will be formed regarding signage, upgrading of footpaths etc
Action: Debs to coordinate submissions with a draft sent to Liz and the Wellington branch of LSA
Council annual plan submission drafts ready by 23rd April for next LSA Wellington meeting (so these can be shared with other areas)
Requiring 3-4 people for the core group
What are the key routes we should prioritise to fit with the Land Transport strategy etc?
Some suggested routes for making improvements are:
Wadestown to Molesworth Street
Brooklyn to Lambton Quay
Hataitai to Courtenay Place
Brooklyn to Hospital
Kelburn to Thorndon Quay
Kelburn to University/City (‘Shortcuts to a Degree’ map could be expanded)
South Karori to Karori Tunnel
Action: Mike, Iona and Lily have put their names forward to represent LSA on this core group
