1. Victoria University Wellington Travel Plan

Key drivers for the Travel Plan are:

The plan is being developed in partnership with Greater Wellington Regional Council and will consider travel to (and from) the Kelburn, Karori, Te Aro and Pipitea campuses for all staff, students and visitors.

VUW worked with technical consultants OPUS to gather data around staff and students travel behaviour.  They did this by plotting where they live using GIS, carrying out a travel survey which generated approx. 2400 responses, followed by a series of focus groups.  The findings of the exercise have been collated and used to produce an implementation plan which Andrew is currently preparing for VUW Senior Management.

VUW currently provide students with free 10 trip bus tickets if they can prove that they need to commute between campuses.

Brent was concerned about the new accommodation planned for Fairlie Terrace and how it may impact on parking and the walking environment.  Andrew advised that that a condition of taking the accommodation is that residents can’t have cars.  Andrew will inform Brent when details of this have been made public so that Brent can share the information with local residents in Aro Valley through the Valley Voice newsletter.

Lily asked about Victoria University’s stance on promoting university pathways for public use in relation to work with Wellington City on their Walking Plan. Andrew responded that the university is currently discussing this internally. There are security and maintenance issues as well as benefits.

LSA are to submit a proposal to VUW to produce a walking map for the VUW campuses, similar to the Newtown & Berhampore one.
