Living Streets Aotearoa Minutes of Meeting held 23 April 2007 Wellington City Council Present: Lily Linton, Liz Thomas, Alexia Pickering, Neil Newman, Mike Mellor, Don McDonald, Debs Moir Apologies: Celia Wade-Brown Draft Annual Plans Submissions to be made to each council outlining who Living Streets Wellington is and our key objectives/what we support Specifics of the Wellington plan discussed such as not supporting footpath expenditure ‘phasing’ or a reduction in capital expenditure for maintenance and renewal of footpaths (no reduction for roading) City Gateway: - Mike attended a Civic Trust meeting regarding this and what to do with this area - It is a significant area in terms of transport: road, rail, port etc - Pedestrian links to and from the cruise ships are important - A possible suggestion at the meeting was to put a footbridge over to the stadium walkway. There is a need to be aware of people with disabilities though. - Also need to consider walking from rail and ferries to cruise ships and Hutt Road - Living Streets Wellington supports pedestrian and cycling enhancements of this area “Accessible” – this term needs defining. What does it encompass? Suggestion that an 0800 number would be useful for reporting footpath faults etc, particularly for using from cellphones and phone boxes. There also needs to be more encouragement for people to report things and a less confrontational nature eg. being able to report without giving your name. Porirua City Council: Living Streets Wellington has been asked to comment on potential full transportation strategy, travel demand management strategy as well as walking and cycling strategy. Meeting closed at 7pm.
