There will be two environmentally suitable prizes to be drawn on each day of the conference to people who have registered to ride share. The first prize will be for all those who registered before the conference, the second day prize would be for all people who have registered, giving those who register during the conference the opportunity to enter the draw.

On the registration form there is a box to check to indicate you are interested in utilising this new technology with secure ride sharing. Your details will then be forwarded to Resolve Group. If you wish to make direct contact with them the email address is livingstreets08@resolvegroup.co.nz .

From Britomart (downtown Auckland)

Your best option depends how far you would like to walk - see below. See MAXX – Auckland’s travel planning website to check all bus, train times, fares and departure points.

Short Walk option

Take bus 757 or 732 - from Britomart it takes 50 minutes. Get off at first stop in Carbine Rd. Short (375m walk) back down Carbine Rd and cross Waipuna Rd (signalised crossing), conference venue is only a few steps down the road to the right.

Scenic Walk Option

Catch any 50, 51 or 52 (Howick bus) from Britomart, get off bus after Panmure shopping centre when bus goes down the hill on Pakuranga Highway – get off before bus goes over Panmure Bridge. Cross the highway at the lights, follow the walkway down to the foot bridge, cross the foot bridge and follow the path around the Panmure Lagoon (clockwise) to the reserve which leads up to the Waipuna. This is about a 15 minute walk with some ups and downs. Walking anticlockwise around the lagoon from footbridge would take about 25 minutes and is all flat.

Challenging Walk Option

Take any Eastern Line train from Britomart, Orakei, Meadowbank or Glen Innes or from southern stations (but must be an Eastern Line train) to Panmure Station. This is a new train, bus interchange. It is possible to pick up a bus service to Carbine Rd here but there are only a couple of good connections. The challenge here is to navigate around the Panmure roundabout – one of the biggest in the country. Exit the station by the left hand exit and use crossings (some not very friendly) going clockwise till you get to main Panmure centre (Queens Rd, walk down Lagoon Drive, past the swimming pool and go through park to access Panmure Lagoon path. The shortest route to Waipuna from here is clockwise over the footbridge – see above. Total walking time 20 – 30 minutes. This walk won’t win any urban design awards but once you are on the lagoon path it is very pleasant!

Retail Option

Catch the Eastern Line Train from Britomart or points south - must be an Eastern Line train. Get off at Sylvia Park (brand new station serving this megacentre).  There are also buses which bring you into the heart of the centre. From the train, use the pedestrian bridge (lift available) to reach the road facing the Sylvia Park shopping centre & cinemas, turn left and walk along footpath to second overpass.  There is a circular, quite long access way here, no steps, which takes you onto the overpass, walk in the direction which takes you back across the railway line till you reach the first intersection, turn left into Carbine Rd - walk till you get to Waipuna Rd (across several signalised intersections), cross Waipuna Rd, turn right and the conference centre is just a few steps along.  Total walking time 20-25 minutes. Carbine Rd is a busy road in a mostly commercial area but footpaths and intersections are fairly walker friendly.

From Pakuranga Motor Lodge

This motel is opposite Pakuranga Plaza on Pakuranga Highway. It is quite feasible to walk from here – stay on the motel side of the road to access the pedestrian path across Panmure Bridge then follow Scenic Walk directions above – 20 – 30 minutes.

Howick buses also travel regularly along Pakuranga Highway via Pakuranga Plaza towards Panmure – get off after you cross the Panmure Bridge.

From Mt Richmond Motor Lodge 676 Mt Wellington Highway

The route to Waipuna along Mt Wellington Highway, Panama Rd and Carbine Rd is very industrial and crosses many major roads, so I would not recommend walking it. You can catch the 359 or 757 bus going to Downtown across the road from the motel – stop at 683 Mt Wellington Highway (it may not be easy to cross here, but there are schools in the area so there may be a pedestrian crossing). You would get off at the last stop in Carbine Rd. Follow the Short Walk instructions above to Waipuna. 717 and 502 also pass this stop but you would need to get off in Penrose Rd and walk about twice as far along Waipuna Rd crossing several busy intersections. Location map here - map still to be loaded. (This is not a very clear map but it may help you get your bearings).

Remember to see MAXX or call (09) 366 6400 for times and route maps. Gay Richards is happy to help with other route planning.
