Meeting dates: It was agreed that meeting dates should be set six
weekly. Meetings will be at 5.15pm at the Sustainable Cities Trust offices, 183
Hereford Street on March 8th, April 19th, May 31st, July 12th, August 23rd, Oct
4th and Nov 15th.
Conference: Steve, Shane and Wendy all thought the Wellington conference
was excellent. Steve spoke well on the need for community street audits and
Wendy presented the Lyttelton map and signage project well. All other speakers
were of a very high standard. Excellent value for money and very well run.
Pilot Project: The following pilot project was discussed. See attached.
Discussion was held on where to target project. Thought it would be good to aim
for projects that the CCC were already in the planning and investigation phase
for street upgrades. Felt the project should focus around the firefighters
intersection.
Project needs more work on the costings and the actual tasks that need to be
achieved. Better to have costings too high than low. Any suggestions welcomed.
(info has been sent to Celia so that a common approach by Living Streets can be
adopted).
Discussion focused on what are appropriate charges? Do we charge "real"
consulting fees or more moderate NGO prices?
Central City Upgrade Plan: We need to be involved with this process.
Consultation finishes on the 31st Jan. Wendy to contact Stewart Woods to discuss
this issue and to see if CCC has budgeted anything for Community Street Audits
and whether they may engage our services.
Our Role: Do we develop projects and act as advocates or one or the
other? Steve and Shane more interested in focusing advocacy and giving advice.
Shane is also keen on research work. Wendy would like to work on both and maybe
the person who runs the street audits. Simon a bit of both as well depending on
his job situation.
Tim Barnett: Tim has followed up with Simon for a meeting to discuss the
road hierarchy. Simon will organise a suitable time to meet. Simon, Shane and
Steve will attend.
Other: Steve has been awarded a scholarship to travel the world for two
months looking at good examples of Sustainable Transport. Anyone who has good
O/S contacts or can suggest projects that should be examined, please contact
Steve.
Meeting closed at 6.30pm.
Next Meeting March 8th.
