As I regularly walk and cycle I realise they are integral in keeping a level of fitness , maintaining the 30 minutes regime which many of us try to keep up .Exercise helps with weight control, muscle fitness , cardiac levels , assist with asthma and diabetes and mental health

In New Plymouth the City Council has instituted the Coastal Walkway which is now 8 kilometres long on the foreshore , however there is an extensive walkway system through out the City taking in the Pukekura Park, Barrets Domain etc. Taranaki wide there are numerous tracks , paths and some cycle ways for both walkers and cyclists. Of course the beach is a wonderful area for all exercise
3. Would you support lowered speed limits on certain streets to enhance their use by pedestrians or cyclists?

Walk the talk , get out and demonstrate by actually doing it .

The Council supports through the Mayoral Bike ride , our mayor takes exercise which is a good role model for other to see. Many Councillors regularly exercise and Howie Tamiti (Councillor is a Sport Taranaki Facilitator for Sport Taranaki so there is a culture of exercise and fitness

Most weeks I cycle twice a week and regularly walk along the walkway,have lead groups over the Stony River walkway this year ( 15 women and a dog!)have taken part in the Taupo Cycle challenge for past 4 years , and Around Taranaki Cycle race ,& Rototura to Taupo race

A lot of walking nand cycling is done around Waitara and as extension of the walkway progresses I believe mor people will become active in walking and cycling. Waitara has many flatish streets which are good for cycling or walking.

(a) pedestrians - good footpaths in most places. Some areas have a footpath on one side of the road only which is a nuisance sometimes.

More cycle paths may be of benefit.

No, I think our speed limits are slow enough now. More marked areas for cyclists I think.

Mostly, but they could be more clearly defined and signposted.

yes. Unfortunately with lack of cyclist lanes cyclists often use footpaths.
