Urban Design Protocol

The Ministry for the Environment launched the Urban Design Protocol in March 2005 and Living Streets became a signatory shortly afterwards.

The Protocol is a voluntary commitment to specific urban design initiatives by signatory organisations including central and local government organisations, private sector professionals, organisations and institutions.

The Protocol aims to make our towns and cities more successful by using quality urban design.  The Ministry for the Environment has identified seven essential design qualities:
