Here is how to access the travel to work data from the 2006 Census.
Go to this page Stats NZ site for accessing travel to work data
This should get you a page showing a table with headings Travel to Work and Total main means of travel to work.
Click the heading Total main means of travel to work.
The table will now expand to show the numbers of people the total population using the various means of travel to work.
Now click either the cell Total NZ by Regional Council/Area Unit or Total NZ by Territorial Authority/Area unit. The first of these will give regional data and the second city/district data.
Download the data by clicking the action button and selecting download.
Here is the regional data converted to percentages.
