Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently asked Questions

Q. Why Walk?

A.  There are many good reasons to walk.  It’s fun, free, and good for your health.  Walking to work will also help you have a happy healthy start to your day.  Walking is great for the community as it allows people to become familiar with their neighbourhoods and encourages them to shop locally and boost the local economy. Walking can also help reduce road congestion.

Q. Do I have to pay to join a Walk2workevent?

A. No, it is free to participate.

Q. Who's organising it?

A. Walk 2 Work Day is being organised by Living Streets Aotearoa. Living Streets Aotearoa is New Zealand's primary advocacy organisation for people on foot.  Living Streets actively encourages more people to walk for some of their journeys, and to combine walking with public transport. For more information on the organisation see http://www.livingstreets.org.nz/content/about-us

Q. I can’t walk all the way to work, can I walk part of the way?

A. Yes, we encourage you to walk where possible.  Using public transport for the parts of your journey where you are unable to walk safely is preferred.

Q. How do I organize an event?

A.  Get some friends to help you make an organising committee and get planning. If you register your event with us at http://www.livingstreets.org.nz/walk2work2010/w2w2010_form  you can get access to helpful resources and an organisers forum where you can ask other organisers questions.

Q. There is no event in my area but I want to get involved?

A. You can sign the pledge to walk to work on March 10th and walk individually or with friends/colleagues at anytime.

Q. I work irregular hours, can I still participate?

A. Yes, we are asking everyone to Walk2work whenever they can.

Q. Do I have to fundraise for charity in order to participate?

A. No, this is not a requirement.

Q. Where can I get more information?

A. You can contact us at our national office on (04) 385 8280; contact your regional contact person or look on the website at www.walk2work.org.nz
