Avondale cycleway approval will mix cyclists with pedestrians

The Avondale Community Board has approved the 1.3km route along Great North Rd, the Central Leader (Dec 5th) has reported. The project will mix cyclists and pedestrians on the narrow footpaths near Blockhouse Bay Rd.

Walk Auckland chairman and Living Streets Treasurer Andy Smith says shared space between cyclists and pedestrians can be a problem, but Aucklanders cope with it better than most.

“Our latest shared space is Grafton Bridge. I’ve heard a few complaints but lots of reports saying it’s working well.”
