NEW - Explore the Shore waking route booklets - Volume 3 now available

The Explore the Shore walks have been developed by Margaret Scrymgeour, who has been involved in walking activities on the North Shore for the past 30 years.  These walks, "road" tested by Margaret and her family and friends, are now published in three booklets, with assistance from Albany Newcomers Network (digital layout), and Albany CoCo Inc.  These booklets are available at local tourist information centres and libraries, while stocks last, and online.

Volume 1: Albany & Greenhithe area walks  Download Albany & Greenhithe booklet (PDF, 1.5MB)

Volume 2: Bays to Devonport area walks     Download Bays to Devonport booklet (PDF, 2.4MB)

Volume 3: Kaipatiki area walks (on the Shore, west of the Northern motorway)  Download Kaipatiki booklet (PDF, 8.0MB)

Auckland Transport's Walking & Footpaths page has maps and other information about walking throughout Auckland.

The North Shore has two major walking routes. You can walk part of these routes to get from A to B or for a leisurely stroll. Tackling the full Coastal Route (23km) requires some planning for tidal conditions and the ability to walk over uneven terrain.

Coastal Walk - Long Bay to Devonport (printed guide available from local i-Site Visitor Centres)

Green Route - Devonport - Takapuna (printed guide available from local i-Site Visitor Centres)

Harbour Sport maintains a list of local walking groups.

Descriptions of walks, with maps, developed by one of our members over many years, are also hosted by Harbour Sport.

Go to Harbour Sport - Walking/Groups Tracks

Scroll down the page to find the walking maps.
