Living Streets Aotearoa President Andy Smith says "Skypath will be a wonderful connection for Auckland's walkers, runners and wheelchair users as well as cyclists. Skypath gives Auckland's feet a lift!"

He adds "It's a pleasure to have worked with cycling advocates on this important project."

Mr Smith says "Living Streets Aotearoa congratulates the new Government on its commitment to walking and cycling, welcomes the $390m fund and looks forward to significant changes due to the new focus on healthy, sustainable transport."

Success at the Golden Foot Walking Awards

Samoan family walking clubs, a radical solution to a dangerous intersection and a hunt for the Gruffalo are among the winners of this year’s Golden Foot Awards. 

The biennial awards ceremony is held by Living Streets Aotearoa to celebrate projects that help to promote walking - in cities, in the country and every day. 

The six winners were presented with their award by Associate Transport Minister Julie Anne Genter in a celebration at Parliament in Wellington. They were:

Government walks the talk in its new GPS

Walking advocacy group Living Streets Aotearoa welcomes the Government’s new transport and funding priorities set out in the Government Policy Statement on Transport.

This Government has heard Living Streets Aotearoa by putting money where everybody’s shoes go. The funding burden for footpath maintenance will now be shared between local and central government under the local roads maintenance class. The walking and cycling activity class has seen a 248% increase which it desperately needed.
