In seeking to optimise the use of existing infrastructure and develop more vibrant shopping centres by creating places/spaces that people want to visit, many Councils are seeking to reallocate road space.

Urban Design Protocol

The Ministry for the Environment launched the Urban Design Protocol in March 2005 and Living Streets became a signatory shortly afterwards.

The Protocol is a voluntary commitment to specific urban design initiatives by signatory organisations including central and local government organisations, private sector professionals, organisations and institutions.
